What is a Jurat?

A jurat is a type of notarization that requires:

  • The document to be signed in the notary’s presence

  • The signer to take an oath or affirmation confirming the truthfulness of the document

  • The notary to complete a jurat certificate stating the signer swore to the document’s accuracy

This is different from an acknowledgment, which only verifies identity and voluntary signing.
A jurat always requires an oath or affirmation and must be signed during the appointment.

An In-Person appointment in Utah County will be accompanied by a $60 travel fee in addition to the standard $10 charge for notarization.
